We have got an allotment! :)

Yeahh! My husband & I got an allotment! Yes, yes! It is situated at the outskirts of Mechelen, into the full countryside! πŸ™‚ It is nearby where we live. Our beloved friends are in the same allotment. We got the plot since November the 1st 2014. It is a really good size, about 110-120 square meters. We have sun early in the morning, in the afternoon & at the west-side too.Β We have clay-loam ground. On the left-side of our plot, there is a water-well. Great, right?

There is a beehive at the end of our plot, on the left! πŸ™‚ Great for future blossoms, veggies to be, plants & flowers!

Like you see above, it was hugely overgrown with weeds & can you see what type of plant,…?

Me being so happy! πŸ™‚

Yes, you were right,…Edible flowers that are such a pest! And these are Nasturtiums! I know, you can love or hate them,…You even can make soup out of the flowers, leaves & stalks or a special pesto!

After weeding, cutting out these edible flowers, other stuff & after a whole lot of hard work, we came to this:

We worked hard & placed down fresh horse manure for later use. Later in the year, at this large left part, we will grow a yellow & a green courgette plant. Β We also will grow 2 types of pumpkins there,…Yes, like you see, there is a beehive on the left.

We put a fence up for our pruned yellow raspberries! Great, hey?

Prepraring the weeded areas for Winter!
Preparing the weeded areas for Winter!

Here on the right, is a hedge of exciting bushes of redcurrant, specific ” Jonkheer van Tets! ”

The surroundings!
The surroundings!
Lovely, hey?
Lovely, hey?

And finally, we have got this lovely view right opposite from our allotment! Cool, hey?

So, this is the end, my lonely friend, the end,…:)

  5. Congratulations. I had never heard of an ‘allotment’. It’s not something that happens in Oz. I think the scenery around your allotment is gorgeous. Looking forward to future tours and seeing what’s growing xx

  6. Hoi Sophie,
Congratulations! You have already done a lot of work. I wish you and Peter a great success and for the future a lot of inspirations for seeding and planting all kinds of vegetables.

  7. Wow, that is very cool Sophie, I’m looking forward to seeing all the wobderful things you will grow. You did an amazing job cleaning it all up, it must have been so gratifying. Do you rent it? In Toronto we have goverment allotments usually under electric wires and there are quite afew in our park (High Park) that people rent. They make little sitting gardens in the middle of their vegetable gardens, it looks so inviting. As I recall, you have a very sweet back yard too. Do you get much snow and cold?

    1. Me too! Yes, we hire it. It is not at all expensive. It is not from the government. It is by someone local. We got 2 months for free!

It if difficult to find many allotments here. There is always a long waiting list. We were on the list too.
We also are going to buy a wooden bench to sit between our produce & flowers! xx
For April, for my birthday, I get a lovely plastic conservatory! yeah! x

      1. We didn’t get too much snow this Winter. It all begin 3 days after Christmas & then we got so much rain! Now, since yesterday, it is snowing again but it is melting! πŸ™‚ xxx

    1. Yes, yes, up til now, we grew everything in larger containers! We will still be growing our chili pepper plant in a bigger container into our walled garden because it works really well! xx

  8. This is great exciting news, dear Sophie! I know this is what you & Peter wanted for a very long time! xxx

  12. Supergaaf!

      1. salie, rozemarijn, hysop, lavendel, lavas, bieslook, munt (goed afbakenen want woekert), bernagie, zurkel en kleine pimpernel groeien makkelijk in volle grond. Met tijm heb ik altijd problemen;maar dat ligt waarschijnlijk aan mij πŸ™‚
